Murshidabad, once the capital of the Nawabs of Bengal, has been weaving fine cotton for centuries. The same hands that once made fabric for royalty still work these looms today. Handloom weaving means no machines — every inch of this fabric was made by a weaver controlling the shuttle by hand. That's why no two pieces are exactly alike, and why it feels different from anything mill-made.

4-ply means four threads twisted together before weaving — giving the fabric real body and durability without feeling heavy. Handloom cotton breathes in a way machine-made cotton simply can't. It regulates temperature naturally, which makes it ideal for India's climate. Wear it in July, wear it in December — it works.

A white mandarin collar shirt is one of the most useful things you can own. It's the rare piece that looks right with jeans, with trousers, tucked or untucked. The off-white tone is softer and more versatile than bright white — it works with virtually every colour. Keep it simple. The fabric and the cut do enough.

Machine wash cold on a gentle cycle, or hand wash. Air dry — skip the dryer. The fabric will soften and mould to you with every wash. Iron on medium while slightly damp for the crispest finish. Treat it well and it'll outlast most things in your wardrobe.
