Madras cloth has been woven in Chennai since the 17th century — it sailed the world on trade ships and never lost its identity. The orange and red check here is woven in at the loom using yarn-dyed threads, not printed. That means the pattern runs through the fabric, not just on its surface. Bold, unapologetic, and made the same way it's been made for generations.

Madras is a tight, structured weave — it holds its form and resists wear better than most cottons. Yarn-dyed colour means no surface cracking or uneven fading at folds. The initial stiffness is the fabric at its most intact. It will soften and relax with wear, but always retain its structure. Built to last, not just look good on day one.

Orange and red is a bold move — and it pays off. The photo nails it: cream or off-white trousers cut the warmth perfectly. Keep everything else neutral. This is a shirt for when you want to be noticed without trying too hard. Roll the sleeves, leave the collar open, and let the colour do what it does.

Stiff by nature — needs breaking in. Hand wash cold for the first few washes to let the fabric soften gradually. Keep it away from the machine early on. Air dry on a hanger. Iron on medium-high heat while slightly damp for a sharp finish. Every wash softens it a little more — within a few wears it'll feel like it was made for you.
